Simon likes to stretch with Sam…
…except when it is too tiring.
It’s also fun to wear Sam’s shoes…
…except when it’s an effort to stay upright.
Simon likes to meet new people, sometimes. His way of saying hello can range from energetically waving and saying hi, on one occasion blowing kisses to some high school girls who collapsed in a giggling pile of “ay, que liiiiiiiiiiiiindo!”, to biting a handlebar with his new friend.
He really likes the gift his friend Giuseppe gave him for Christmas, a set of blocks in a cool zippered bag. I find it especially cute when he asks for help opening the bag, like below.
This photo was a wake-up call reminding me to cut Elvis’, I mean Simon’s, hair.
Simon loved walking through the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires….
...mostly because there were so many cats. But he favored this pretty fabulous tomb, too, since we got to see a giant dog and a real cat at the same time.
While this obviously isn’t of Simon, I’m including it here since it falls under the same category in my mind. It is such a sweet photo. I love the combination of the pensive boy looking out the window with his two brothers sleeping comfortably on one another. This was on the bus from Cafayate to Salta, in Argentina.
When we were trying to get Simon to try some homemade juice soon after we moved into our apartment, we taught him how to clink glasses and toast, then drink. It worked, he drank the jugo and now enjoys toasting on occasion. Yesterday he wanted to toast… with bananas. Why not bananas, really? So we toasted and then ate.
Will Simon be a swimmer like his mom? Too soon to tell… he loves my goggles and likes to examine things around the apartment while wearing them, but hasn’t yet wanted to actually wear the goggles in the bath or a pool.
Simon has recently been fascinated by spitting. So frequently we go hang out in the bathroom with a cup of water so he can spit to his heart’s content. The other night he was really hamming it up in the mirror, which I found hilarious, and lucky for me he kept it up long enough so that I could run for the camera.
The next performance will begin at 8.
What a great idea to take a kid who's into spitting into the bathroom where spitting is allowed. Excellent Mom Moment! And I would be remiss if I didn't mention how big Simon looks in these pictures. SOO BIG!
ReplyDeleteJill! I was at an LLL meeting here a couple of weeks ago with my somehow-now-big 2 year old and two pregnant moms-to-be who had all the normal questions, and that whole meeting, all I could think of was how I used to be them/a very new mom, trying to figure it out, and while I still feel that way a lot of the time, here they think I'm you, this very savvy, experienced, relaxed, and with-it mom!
ReplyDeleteSoooooo fun that you have Simon with you. I was thinking how different this year would be if it was just you and Sam. (i.e. if you had done this trip B.S. ... before Simon) I find myself laughing aloud when I read your comments and see his ADORABLE face in these photos. His hair gets curly when it is longer???? that one blew me away a little. And I LOVE the greeting over the scooter handlebars ... ha ha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing he is!
(warning ... I'm going to attempt to get caught up on your blog this next week ... expect many comments !!! :-) I should do it chronologically - right now I'm going backwards - most current first) I LOVE reading what you write and your photos ... and picturing the situation.
We've had the same thought many times, too, about how different the year would be sans Simon. While we might have more of a social life, we also think he has really opened some doors for us as a family that wouldn't have existed otherwise. It is definitely wonderful to experience another culture through children and something I wouldn't have known to appreciate if I were here alone or just as a couple!
ReplyDeleteRe: his hair - no, it's not curly. Somehow that evening it was just so long, I was combing it with my fingers straight up, which made it look like it was curly as it fell over and down. Haircut time!
I love your comments and hearing from you, chronologically or not! Keep them coming! Love to you and your family!
