There is something heartening about having strangers smile
at you because of your child. We are so lucky to hear the refrain “ay, que lindo!” as we walk about Lima.
People love Simon: his blond hair
stands out and of course he’s
adorable anyway.
They aren’t usually talking to us; I hear it all the time between schoolgirls who notice Simon or groups of older women talking together. But it’s also nice to trade compliments with other moms and grin at our children’s antics.

I wonder at what age people stop thinking your child is
beautiful and start thinking he’s annoying… perhaps that is in the eye of the
beholder. I’m enjoying this bit of sunshine from people as they encounter
Simon, regardless of however long it lasts!
